Scott Kraft Joins the OPC Foundation Board

Strengthening our Board: Welcoming Scott Kraft

The Overseas Press Club Foundation is pleased to welcome Scott Kraft to its Board of Directors. A distinguished journalist and newsroom leader, Kraft brings decades of experience in international reporting, investigative journalism and editorial leadership to the Foundation’s mission of supporting the next generation of international correspondents.

Kraft is senior vice president and editor at large for enterprise journalism and special projects at the Los Angeles Times, where he oversees investigations, standards and practices, and newsroom-wide reporting initiatives. Over four decades at the newspaper, he has served as managing editor, deputy managing editor/news and national editor, as well as a foreign and national correspondent. He has directed reporting efforts that have won nine Pulitzer Prizes.

As a correspondent, Kraft spent a decade abroad as the Los Angeles Times bureau chief in Nairobi, Johannesburg and Paris. He covered major international stories, including the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of apartheid in South Africa. His reporting on the AIDS epidemic in Africa earned the Society of Professional Journalists’ Distinguished Service Award for Foreign Correspondence, while his reporting from Haiti received the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for international reporting. Before joining the Los Angeles Times, he was a national correspondent for the Associated Press and a Pulitzer Prize finalist in feature writing.

Kraft has also played a significant role in recognizing excellence in journalism, serving as a juror and chair of the Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting. He has served on numerous Pulitzer Prize juries, including as chair of five juries between 2015 and 2023.

A longtime leader within the Overseas Press Club of America, Kraft served for a decade on the Overseas Press Club of America’s Board of Governors and is its immediate past president. His commitment to international journalism and the next generation of journalists makes him a valued addition to the OPC Foundation’s Board of Directors.

We are delighted to welcome Scott Kraft to the Board and look forward to working with him to advance the Foundation’s mission.
