Yi-Ling Liu’s book “The Wall Dancers: Searching for Freedom and Connection on the Chinese Internet” has been published. The Wall Dancers is a social history of the Chinese internet told through personal stories navigating state censorship.

Now a journalist-in-residence at the Tarbell Center for AI Journalism, Yi-Ling Liu won the OPC Foundation Fritz Beebe Scholarship in 2017. She joined the Associated Press in Hong Kong through the OPC Foundation fellowship, then freelanced in Beijing from 2018–2022. Most recently she served as China editor at Rest of World.
