Rose Gilbert Awarded 2026 Tony Horwitz Fellowship
Rose Gilbert, an OPC Foundation Scholar Award winner in 2022, has been named the 2026 Tony Horwitz Fellow by Columbia Journalism School.
The prestigious fellowship will support Rose's reporting project, Who Is Anita Garibaldi?, which looks at how the 19th-century Brazilian revolutionary's legacy continues to influence politics and national identity in Brazil ahead of the country's 2026 general elections.Reporting from Brazil, Uruguay, and Italy, Rose will examine how one historical figure continues to shape contemporary political narratives.
After receiving an OPC Foundation Scholar Award in 2022, Rose spent six weeks reporting from Lebanon, where she covered the country's financial crisis, the art market, and antiquities trafficking. Since then, she has continued to build an impressive reporting career, most recently as an award-winning reporter and producer at WPLN News.
The Tony Horwitz Fellowship supports Columbia Journalism School graduates pursuing ambitious reporting projects in the spirit of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Tony Horwitz.
