Yucheng Tang Wins Four California Journalism Awards

OPC Foundation Richard Pyle Scholar Award winner 2023 Yucheng Tang has received four honors in the 2025 California Journalism Awards, presented by the California News Publishers Association.

Yucheng who recently earned an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from New York University, received Fourth Place in the Enterprise Reporting category for his three-part series published by ChicoSol News examining the fire that destroyed Bidwell Mansion, a historic landmark central to Chico's founding and identity. The series explored the mansion's history, the devastating fire, and the lasting impact of its loss on the local community.

In addition, Tang received:

• Fifth Place in the Homelessness Reporting category for his story on participating in a Point-in-Time count in Butte County.

• Fifth Place in the In-Depth Reporting category for his reporting on the Butte County Mental Health Diversion Court.

• Fifth Place in the Video Journalism category for his story covering a Ukrainian delegation's visit to learn about Camp Fire recovery, including a special performance by the Paradise Symphony.
